Kamuela House Fire Causes $100K in Damage

At 8:26 a.m. Monday, the Hawai’i County Fire Department responded to a house fire in the South Kohala District.

Upon arrival, two occupants of a home on Lokelani Place in Kamuela were standing outside a two-story single-family home with an attached single-story common area and a garage.

HFD personnel saw light smoke from the single story portion of the home. The fire was contained to the laundry and living room areas. By 8:50 a.m., the fire was extinguished through the efforts of 20 fire personnel who responded to the scene. According to HFD, the fire did not spread to any other areas.

Total damage was estimated to be about $100,000. The majority of the damage was due to smoke and heat. Fire personnel estimate that $400,000 was saved.

During the incident, a 38-year-old woman sustained second degree burn to her leg.

An Investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
