Kea’au High School held its annual athletic awards dinner on May 20.

The male Athlete of the Year award went to Justin Quesada. As a pitcher on the Cougars’ baseball squad, he went 3-3 with a 3.32 earned run average. At the plate, he batted .333 with six runs batted in.

Quesada was a key member of a baseball squad that appeared in its first Big Island Interscholastic Federation championship series. The Cougars lost to Hilo in a sweep. He also received an award in football.

Ivory Ayers received the female Athlete of the Year honor. She won a BIIF championship in both wrestling and judo.

Ayers won the league wrestling title in the 225-pound weight class and placed fifth in the same division at the Chevron/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships. In the spring season, she won the BIIF title in the 172-pound judo weight class. She later placed third in the HHSAA State Judo Championships.
