***Updated at 5:40 p.m. to include additional information from the Hawai’i Police Department. ***

Hawai’i Police Department officers from the North Hilo District responded at 11:28 a.m. after receiving a call that a body was found in the Umauma Stream.

Police reports that the body, identified as a woman, was found partially submerged.

The body was taken from the stream by the Hawai’i County Fire Department.

HPD detectives remain on scene and have not yet made positive identification.

A coroner’s inquest has been initiated and an autopsy will be ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
