Four Hilo Golfers Qualify for IMG Championships
Four junior golfers from Hilo successfully qualified for the IMG Junior World Championship, held July 11-17 in San Diego, Calif.
Dysen Park, Michiko Ejima, Isaiah Kanno, and Pono Yanagi each earned their qualifying spots during the 2015 IMG HSJGA Junior World Qualifier, held over the weekend at Wailua Municipal Golf Course.
Park received one of four qualifying spots in the Boys 9-10 age division. He shot +7 and finished third in the event’s Boys 7-10 group. Joshua Satonaka Chung of Honolulu shot -4 to win the division and gain a qualifying spot.
Ejima took third place out of four competitors in the Girls 9-10 division. She shot +42, behind winner Ashley Koga of Honolulu. All four competitors in the division earned qualifying spots.
Kanno finished in fourth in the Boys 11-12 division after shooting +7, two strokes behind winner Torin Dezzani.He received one of four qualifying spots in the age group.
The last Hilo golfer to receive a qualifying spot was Yanagi, who received one of four spots in the Boys 13-14 group. He show +14 to finish in a tie for 24th place in the Boys 13-18 division.
Last weekend’s tournament was held in conjunction with the Aloha Section PGA and the Hawai’i State Junior Golf Association.
