The Hawai’i County Fire Department responded to an early morning brush fire on the north side of Kaiminani Drive, about a quarter mile above Highway 19, in Kona on Saturday.

Twelve HFD Firefighters and one volunteer firefighter responded just before 3 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, the fire was controlled and extinguished with HFD apparatus. During the incident, one lane of traffic in the area was closed. The fire was extinguished by 3:40 a.m.

Officials say the fire burned an area of about a quarter of an acre, which consisted of private land and a public road.

Fire personnel have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
