FBI Seeking Missing Colorado Child on Big Island
The Honolulu FBI is seeking public help in recovering a missing child. Nine-year-old Brianne Kirk is thought to be on the Big Island with her non-custodial parent, Brian Donald Kirk.
Brianne was reported missing after she failed to return home to her mother’s house in Colorado Springs, Colo., on March 30. Her father, Brian, took temporary custody of the child for a spring break camping trip on the Big Island on March 22.
FBI officials confirmed that the two arrived at Kona International Airport on March 24. They were headed to a vacant lot in Hawaiian Paradise Park in Puna on 20th avenue, according to a text message sent to Brianne’s mother by Brian.
Though Brianne was supposed to be home on March 30, she failed to return and Brian’s cell phone has since been turned off. FBI officials believe they are still on the Big Island, and no evidence shows they’ve left by plane.
Brian used to live on the Big Island, and reportedly still has extensive social and family ties in the area.
A warrant for the arrest of Brian and a court order for law enforcement to retrieve Brianne have been issued in Jefferson County, Colorado.
Brian Kirk is described as a 57-year-old white male, 6’0″, 185 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
Brianne Kirk is described as a nine-year-old white female, less than 4’5″, with brown eyes and brown hair.
FBI Special Agent Tom Simon said the FBI is appealing Mr. Kirk to cooperate with the court orders and return Brianne home to her mother.
“Her family back in Colorado is concerned, and they want to know that Brianne is safe,” said Simon.
He added, “The FBI has no reason to believe that Brian intends to harm Brianne, but we are seeking the public’s help in locating them to ensure Brianne’s safety and reunite her with her mother.”
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Brian Kirk or Brianne Kirk should contact the Honolulu FBI at 808-566-4300.
