Hilo’s Pono Yanagi was among the winners at this weekend’s Hawai’i State Junior Golf Association 14 & Under Junior Tour Series event, held at Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

Yanagi competed in the Boys 13-14 age group division. He shot an opening round 76, giving him a three-stroke lead over Honolulu’s Aj Keoki Teraoka. A final round 68 on the par-72 course sealed the win in the division for Yanagi, who finished at even par, six strokes better than Teraoka.

In the Boys 11-12 division, Hilo golfer Isaiah Kanno shot -1 for his opening round and had a five-shot lead over Honolulu’s Kelly Chinn going into the last round. Kanno shot a 78, however, finishing second to Chinn, who shot an even-par 72 to take a one shot win.

The next event on the HSJGA 14 & Under Junior Tour Series will be held at Mililani Golf Club on Oahu between April 25-26. Interested golfers in each age group have a deadline of April 15 to register.
