UH Hilo Presents ‘Hilo: Da Musical’ in April
The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo’s Performing Arts Department will premiere a close-to-home theater performance this month drawing on the character and nuance of living in Hilo.
“Hilo: Da Musical” debuts at the UH Hilo Performing Arts Center on April 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 p.m., and April 19 at 2 p.m.
UH Hilo Drama Professor Jackie Pualani Johnson wrote the musical in homage to her hometown where “ice shave, hula, orchids, musubi, astronomical adventures, the loco moco, and rain…. reign!”
The show features over 30 performers from every corner of Hilo’s theater scene, defining what it means to be “local” through theatrical recreations of every day interactions.
The story centers around a trio of college students who embark on a search for Hilo’s famous landmarks and activities, gradually exposing the heartbeat of the bayside town.
Presale tickets are $15 general, $10 discount, and $5 for UH Hilo/HawCC students with valid student IDs and children, ages 17 and under. Tickets at the door will be $20 for general admission, $10 discount, and $10 for UH Hilo/HawCC students and children ages 17 and under.
Call the UH Hilo Box Office at 932-7490 for tickets or order online.
