Over The Moon At Moonstruck Patisserie in Hilo
Fine European pastries in Hawaii? Yes, please! The Moonstruck Patisserie in Downtown Hilo is nothing less than the creme de la creme of sweet tooth delights!
Owner and pastry extraordinaire, Chef Jackie Tan-DeWitt, opened Moonstruck Patisserie with a little more than a dream to have a European style bakery in Hawaii. Jackie brings the Hawaii foodie scene a world of culinary talents and over 20 years of experience working with well known Swiss, Lebanese, and French pastry chefs. She has experience working for high-end locales like the Ritz-Carlton in Singapore, and has most definitely honed in on her talents in the kitchen.
At Moonstruck Patisserie in Downtown Hilo, sweet and savory guests can enjoy Specialty Cakes, Cheesecakes, Classic Cakes, and a whole world of delicious Pastries. The Chocolate Concerto (a Belgian chocolate cheesecake) is absolutely to die for with a white chocolate mousse and dark chocolate shavings. The Big Island inspired Lilikoi Cheesecake is tres fabu with a house made passionfruit curd; the Hazelnut Sonata will have you in 7th heaven with four thin layers of butter cake, two layers of hazelnut butter cream, all covered in a chocolate truffle with roasted hazelnuts. Now, that’s amore!
Pastries at Moonstruck are found in diverse varieties, perfect for all palettes. Guests can choose from perfectly baked classic French pastries like the Pain Au Chocolat (Chocolate Croissant), a yummy Ham and Cheese Croissant, or the Frangipane Croissant, a 100% butter croissant filled with almond cream, sliced almonds and powdered sugar. Personal favorites are of the savory choosing, and the Salami, Rosemary and Olive Rock Bun is perhaps the best selfish treat I have ever tasted. The Curry Puff is reminiscent of Singapore’s Little India neighborhood (but, only a high end variety here) with beef, carrots, peas and enticing curry spices all packaged in a loving little puff pastry.
So, it’s pretty obvious that Jackie knows what she’s doing in Hilo Town! I dare you to visit the Moonstruck Patisserie when on a diet, but hey, who’s needs to diet anyway?!
