If you’re looking for a new restaurant to spice things up, Kamana Kitchen has you covered.  The traditional Indian cuisine eatery recently opened its doors in Hilo at the Hilo Shopping Center, and serves ‘thousand-year old recipes to create homely and vibrant flavors’.

The menu offers a pleasing and exotic assortment of appetizers, entrees, deserts, drinks, and delicious, hand-kneaded naan bread to complement any curry.

Soups, samosas, and pakoras (vegetable or meat that is battered and fried) can get you started, with fresh salads and accompaniments like sweet and sour mango chutney to go with your meal.

Entrees are moderately priced, offering both vegetarian and meat options in an array of creamy, rich sauces infused with traditional herbs and spices.  Meat-lovers can enjoy chicken, lamb, or seafood dishes.

The usual assortment of drinks are available, in addition to sweet and savory refreshments like the ‘mango lassie’.  The popular south-east Asian beverage is made with a blend of yogurt, water, spices, and fruit.

If you can, save room for dessert!  The menu offers some exotic ice cream varieties, rice pudding, and ‘gajar halwa’, a creamed and sweetened cooked carrot pudding.
