Parker Students Among Finalists in Congressional Art Competition
Five Big Island students are among the 23 finalists in the Hawai’i 2nd Congressional District’s Kaha Ki’i Art Competition.
Reese Dalton, Annalina Lozano, Mia Scibelli, Micah Yamanaka, and Zoe Zivalic, all of Parker School, are among students from Moloka’i High School, Baldwin High Sch ool, Leilehua High School, and Le Jardin Academy.
The national high school arts competition is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives each spring in hopes of recognizing and encouraging creativity in Hawai’i and throughout the country.
“I am very pleased to see that more high schools and their students participated this year, sharing talents with the entire country,” Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said in a statement. “The arts are key to academic learning, equipping students with unique cultural perspectives. Hawai’i student artistic abilities are showcased by this year’s educator submissions. Our youth demonstrate such diverse talent that make Hawai’i proud.”
Winners of the district-wide competition will be announced at a ceremony at the State Capital on March 28.
The U.S. Capitol will display the first-place piece for one year, alongside winners from other U.S. congressional districts.
A “People’s Choice” competition is also happening on Congresswoman Gabbard’s Facebook page, where community members can vote on their favorite art piece through March 26.
