The Department of Water Supply has announced a temporary shut-off of water service along Kamehameha Avenue between Pauahi Street and the Wailoa Fisheries Research Station in Hilo on Wednesday, Feb. 25, between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. for the replacement of a fire hydrant.

When water service resumes, waterlines will be flushed and cleaned. During the flushing period, customers may experience turbid and discolored water. Air may also be trapped in plumbing, but will release upon initial use of water.

Customers in the affected areas should take precautions to protect property and facilities. DWS officials advise disabling electrical power to pumps and other devices that are dependent on water pressure.

Questions may be directed to Carl Nishimura, District Supervisor, at 961-8790.
