Failed Escape Attempt at Kona District Court

A woman being detained by Sheriffs in a holding cage outside the District Court in Kona attempted to escape, squeezing through a small space in a locked double gate, but was quickly detained.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Cheyanne Collins was pursued by Deputy Sheriffs at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday. They captured her, without incident, in the parking lot.

The entire incident occurred during a five minute time period.

During her escape, Collins was wearing handcuffs and leg shackles.

Upon being captured, Sheriffs transported Collins to the Hawai’i Community Correctional Center where she is being held on $2,000 bond for an unrelated case.

Collins will face additional charges for her escape.
