A Blizzard Warning is still posted for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa this morning. A view of the observatory webcams shows white out conditions from nearly every vantage point on Mauna Kea. Snow is seen dusting the summit of Mauna Loa.

The Mauna Kea Access Road is currently blocked and impassable due to fallen pine trees near the water reservoir. No vehicles are currently able to make it beyond this point in either direction. The road to the summit is also closed due to hurricane force winds, heavy fog, rain and ice on the road.

The winds are sustained in the 80 to 100 mph range with gusts as high as 130 mph. Hawaii Island summits remain under a high wind warning as well.

Currently it’s snowing on the summit of Mauna Kea, relative humidity is at 93 percent, the temperature is 29° and sustained winds are out of the WNW at 40 mph.
