The Department of Public Works announced Tuesday afternoon that nighttime work will occur in downtown Hilo for two nights this week, closing Bayfront Highway.
Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., Bayfront Highway will be closed to motorists. The road will close again Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Off-duty police officers will redirect motorists to Waianuenue Road. These officers will be stationed on Kamehameha Avenue and on Bayfront Highway.
The roadwork is part of the Kamehameha Avenue reconstruction project and will continue to improve the intersection at Pauahi Street and Bayfront Highway.
