HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Seventeen motorists were arrested for driving under the influence for the week of Nov. 24 to Dec. 1, according to the Hawi’i Police Departments weekly statistical breakdown.

Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

In 2014, 1,065 DUI arrests have been made so far, as compared to 1,210 arrests during the same time last year.

Additionally, traffic crashes are down by 56 percent. There has been 1,411 major accidents so far this year on Big Island roadways, compared to last year’s 1, 231.

Major accidents, on the other hand, have risen by 14.6 percent in 2014, with 1,411 accidents occurring on the roadways. In 2013, there were 1,231 major accidents.

Traffic fatalities have decreased by 56 percent in 2014 with 11 traffic fatalities, as compared to 25 during the same period in 2013.

Six of the traffic fatalities were related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both.

Officers will continue with DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
