Fans of University of Hawai’i at Hilo men’s basketball will have to wait a few hours longer for Monday night’s home opener.

The Vulcans are scheduled to play Washburn University on the opening night of the Vulcans Thanksgiving Classic, held at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. The game was originally scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., but has been pushed back two hours due to travel concerns.

A UH-Hilo athletics official told Big Island Now Sunday that Washburn’s flight from Dallas had been cancelled, setting back the team’s arrival in the islands.

Also pushed back is the opening game in the classic, a matchup between Seattle Pacific University and Northwest Indian College. Originally scheduled for 5 p.m., the game will now be played at 7 p.m., prior to the UH-Hilo game.

The rest of the schedule for the three-day tournament is unchanged. All games will be played at the Civic.
