Fuel Spill Closed Bayfront Highway Early Friday

A spill from an oil tanker involved in an accident closed Bayfront Highway between Waianuenue Avenue and Pauahi Street early Friday morning.
The Hawai’i Fire Department responded to the incident that happened at the intersection of Bayfront Highway and Pauahi Street at 5:39 a.m.
Approximately two gallons of jet fuel spilled from the tanker but was able to be contained on the roadway. An additional 8,000 gallons of fuel was transferred to another tanker truck and hauled away.
By 9:30 a.m., the vehicle was removed and the roadway was cleared.
The cause of the accident and spill remains under investigation by the Hawai’i Police Department.
