The Hawai`i County Department of Parks and Recreation has scheduled fire ant treatments that will temporarily close two Hilo parks.

Mālama Park on Monday, Sept. 29 and Waiākeawaena Park on Saturday, Oct. 4 will both be affected.

Weather permitting, the parks will close during the morning hours while the ant bait is applied. These closures are part of ongoing efforts to battle fire ants at public recreational areas.

Additional treatment sites and dates will be announced in the future.
