East Hawai’i drivers should expect some traffic interference next week.

Starting Monday, there will be alternating single lane closures from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Volcano Road in both directions between mile markers 8.6 and 13.4 from Keaau to Mountain View.

Closures will continue through next Friday for pavement reconstruction.

Steel bridge repairs on the Umauma Bridge near Hakalau will impact traffic next week. There will also be alternating lane closures on the bridge in both directions over a 24-hour period all week.

Drivers are to follow the 20-mph speed limit while traveling on the Umauma Bridge. Vehicles that exceed statutory size-weight limits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis upon application of their respective oversize-overweight vehicle permits. Maximum width for any vehicle with permit passing over the bridge is 12 feet.
