Lava continued northeast Sunday through the Wao Kele o Puna Forest Reserve.
According to an article in the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported the lava was last recorded about 1.2 miles from a rural neighborhood on the reserve’s eastern boundary.
The observatory reports the lava flow has exited a ground crack and is creating brush fires as it continues through the forest.
