The Puna Hiking trail is closed until further notice.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife issued a press release Thursday stating several tree falls caused by Hurricane Iselle are blocking access to Haena (Shipman) Beach in the South Hilo area.
“Removal of these downed trees will take DOFAW crews some time to complete,” said Steven Bergfeld, DOFAW Hawai`i branch manager.
No word on when the trail will reopen.
