Hale Nani inmate Richard Elliston was arrested by Big Island police and returned to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on Monday, Aug. 11, according to Toni Schwartz with the state Department of Public Safety.
Elliston was on a work furlough pass on May 8 and failed to return to Hale Nani as scheduled.
He was serving time for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
He is now pending trial for second-degree escape, which can carry a sentence of 10 years.
Hale Nani is a reintegration program located five miles from HCCC. It offers offender reintegration services and a work release program for sentenced inmates who will soon be released on Hawai’i Island.
