The Hawaii Department of Transportation advises Hawaii Island motorists of a detour around the Umauma Stream Bridge on state Route 19 (Mamalahoa Highway) due to the approach of Hurricane Iselle.
At noon today, Thursday, Aug. 7, the bridge, which is currently undergoing structural repairs, will be closed.
Barricades will be set up for the detour at Kauniho Road on the north side and Leopolino Road on the south side of Route 19. The detour will take motorists on the Old Mamalahoa Highway.
Drivers should plan for extra time and expect delays through this area. The bridge will be re-opened after the storm and after a safety inspection, an HDOT spokesmen said.
