UPDATE: Kona Assault Victim Dies at Oahu Hospital

Police said a 52-year-old man found Tuesday lying on a Kailua-Kona sidewalk with a severe head wound died this morning.
The man, identified as Walter Kamana of Kailua-Kona, was discovered by patrol officers face down along Ali`i Drive in the area of the Kailua Pier.
Kamana was taken Tuesday in critical condition to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu where he died at 9:16 a.m. today.
Police said they are waiting for the results of an autopsy scheduled for Thursday before reclassifying the case from an assault.

Kona police are investigating an assault of a man who was found lying face down with a head wound in downtown Kailua-Kona early Tuesday morning.
Patrol officers making routine checks near the Kailua Pier found the 52-year-old Kailua-Kona man on the makai sidewalk of Ali`i Drive shortly before 6 a.m.
The man, who had suffered a head wound, was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in critical condition.
Police are looking for anyone, including canoe paddlers or other ocean-goers, who may have witnessed the incident.
