Kaumana Home Heavily Damaged in Fire

A fire caused heavy damage to a home in Kualua Place in upper Kaumana at about noon today.

Personnel from the Kaumana Fire Station arriving at 11:48 a.m. found flames engulfing the front of the single-story home and a vehicle in a carport.

Flames and smoke were also seen coming out of the rafters and bedroom windows in the back.

Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to homes on either side.

Neighbors told firefighters that no one was home at the time of the fire.

A 4-week-old puppy was rescued by a firefighter from a back bedroom.

Damage to the 1,700-square-foot structure was estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The fire prompted the closing of Pulima Drive, which branches off from Saddle Road just above the intersection of the Puainako Extension and Kaumana Drive.

Pulima Drive was reopened shortly before 2 p.m.
