$5M Released for New Classrooms at Waimea Middle School

Gov. Neil Abercrombie today announced the release of $5 million for construction of a new classroom building at Waimea Middle School.
The building will have eight classrooms and include science rooms and labs, computer labs, a faculty center, conference room and offices.
The funding was part of $87.1 million appropriated previously by state lawmakers for statewide public school improvements.
Other funding released recently included:
- $36.5 million in design and construction funds for renovations of education facilities and infrastructure statewide
- $15 million to support programs and equipment needs, including projects to bring facilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and gender equity laws
- $10.9 million to expand facilities at schools short of classroom space, including the addition of portable classroom buildings at four schools
