Kailua Playground Reopens; Fourth to be Renovated
The county announced this week it has completed renovation of the playground at Kailua Park near the Old Kona Airport.
The playground features swings, multiple slides, climbing rings, with a grass-like safety surface and canopies for shade.
The $440,677 project includes covered decks, benches, picnic tables and a pavilion.
The play area is among six either under renovation or completed at Big Island parks, and the first in West Hawaii.
Other playgrounds completed include those at parks in Mountain View, Honoka`a and Waiakea Uka in Hilo. The Gilbert Carvalho Park and Waiakeawaena playgrounds are still under renovation.
A spokesman for Mayor Billy Kenoi said the projects represent a $3 million investment in keiki facilities since the mayor took office in 2008.
