Red Cross Recruiting Disaster Volunteers in Kona

The American Red Cross is recruiting volunteers in Kona to help out in disasters.

All new volunteers must take a series of free disaster trainings.

The next series of trainings will be held at Hualalai Academy on two consecutive Saturdays beginning on April 26.

They include:

  • Disaster Services: An Overview, from 9 a.m. to noon on April 26
  • Shelter Fundamentals, from 12:30-4 p.m. on April 26
  • Disaster Assessment Basics, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 3
  • Disaster Action Team: An Orientation, from 1-4 p.m on May 3

Interested persons must first register online at redcross.org/Hawaii. Click on “Volunteer” and then on “Becoming a Volunteer.”

Once applications are completed, the Red Cross will contact individuals about signing up for the basic disaster classes.

Hualalai Academy is located at 74-4966 Kealakaa St., Kailua-Kona.

The Red Cross is a non-profit humanitarian organization which provides immediate emergency needs to those affected by disasters. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims is free.
