A 35-year-old Honoka`a man was charged today with allegedly stealing money from a tourist’s unlocked rental car.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, a 58-year-old visitor from Henryville, Ind. reported that as he was returning to his car parked near a Honoka`a shopping center, he saw a man reaching inside the passenger door and taking cash from the console. The suspect then fled on foot.

About 15 minutes later, police located the suspect, identified as Jovin Baba Batalona, who was arrested.

Batalona was charged today with unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and third-degree theft.

He was being held at the police cellblock in lieu of $11,000 bail.
