University of Hawai`i at Hilo senior Kamie Imai was named to the All-PacWest Conference Second Team in women’s basketball after leading her team in assists and rebounds.

Imai, the only UH-Hilo player to receive recognition from the conference, was second on the team with 11.5 points per game. She led her team with 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. She also finished fourth in the PacWest with a 1.4 assist to turnover ratio.

The Waiakea High School graduate closed out the 2013-2014 regular season Saturday with a season-high 24 points on Senior Day. The Vulcans lost to Hawai`i Pacific 78-61.

Imai was an All-PacWest Second Team selection last year in her opening season at UH-Hilo. Her prior two seasons were spent at Division I Utah State University.

“She is as well liked as any senior we’ve had, top to bottom, on our roster,” said UH-Hilo head coach David Kaneshiro after Saturday’s loss. The third-year head coach also praised Imai’s work ethic and coachable attitude as reasons why he’s been “lucky to be her coach for two years.”

Imai’s season isn’t over yet. The Vulcans have a rematch with HPU today at 3:30 p.m. Hawai`i time in the opening round of the PacWest Women’s Basketball Tournament in San Diego, CA. The winner will face Cal Baptist Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
