Fire Destroys Unoccupied Nanawale Estates Home

Inspectors with the Hawaii County Fire Department are investigating a fire that destroyed a home in lower Puna Sunday night.

Firefighters arriving at the home in the Nanawale Estates subdivision at 8:28 p.m. found the home engulfed in flames and partially collapsed.

It took nearly two hours for the crew from the Pahoa Fire Station to extinguish the blaze near the intersection of Molokai and Ali`i roads.

Damage to the home 1,200-square-foot, unpermitted and unoccupied home was estimated at $140,000.
