Waa Waa Man Charged with Assault of Neighbor

A 28-year-old Puna man has been charged with assault in connection with an alleged incident that sent his 47-year-old neighbor to the hospital.

Police responded to Hilo Medical Center at 2:49 a.m. Monday to interview the victim who was being treated for what was described as “substantial” injuries to his face and body. Police said the Waa Waa man remained hospitalized today in stable condition.

At 8:50 a.m. Monday, police arrested Kiel Brende, also of Waa Waa in lower Puna.

Brende was charged Monday afternoon with second-degree assault. His bail was initially set at $10,000.
