A 90-year-old Kona man died Tuesday from injuries sustained when a storage shed fell on top of him.

Police said Walter K. Sugi of Honaunau had crawled under the shed on his property to retrieve an item when the building collapsed.

Fire department personnel extracted Sugi from under the shed and transported him to Kona Community Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest into the incident. An autopsy will be performed.
