Witnesses Sought to Robbery Wednesday at Bandstand

Police are seeking witnesses to an alleged robbery that took place at about noon Wednesday at the Mo`oheau Bandstand.

A 32-year-old Hakalau man told police that an acquaintance took money from him while at the bandstand. When the victim tried to retrieve the money, the suspect allegedly punched him several times and then fled.

The suspect was identified as a man who frequents the downtown Hilo area.

On Thursday morning, police arrested 54-year-old John Michael Kapahu on suspicion of robbery.

Kapahu, who has no permanent address, was being held at the Hilo cellblock pending further investigation.
