Knife-Wielding Bicyclist Robs Man in Hilo

Police are investigating a robbery reported to have occurred early this morning in Hilo.

A 31-year-old man told police he was standing on the sidewalk on the mauka side of Kanoelehua Avenue near Leilani Street between 4 and 4:30 a.m.when he was approached by a man on a bicyclist.

The bicyclist threatened the man with a knife and demanded cash.

The robber then rode north with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect was described as a thin Caucasian man in his mid-30s to early 40s with long hair. He was wearing a white tank top, bright red or orange shorts and was carrying a light-colored messenger bag.

The victim was not injured.

Police ask that anyone with information on the robbery call the police department at 935-3311.
