BIIF Girls Soccer Postseason Schedule Set
State berths are at stake when the Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls soccer tournament gets underway this week.
The BIIF has two berths into the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts / Hawai`i High School Athletic Association Girls Soccer Championships, held Feb. 5-8 on Oahu. Hilo clinched one of those two spots by winning the outright regular season championship with a 9-1-1 record and 28 points accumulated in the season. The Vikings defeated Hawai`i Prep 2-1 Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
Hilo finished two points ahead of Konawaena, the tournament’s second seed. After finishing the regular season with an 8-2-1 mark, the Wildcats will host Kealakehe (7-1-3), the third-seeded finisher. Hilo will host fourth-seeded Waiakea (7-3-1).
The Division I championship, held Saturday night at Kamehameha-Hawai`i, will determine the seeded representative in the state tournament.
HPA won the outright regular season championship in Division II, finishing with a mark of 8-2-1. The league has two more guaranteed berths to the state championship to hand out while a fourth berth will be earned in a play-in game against the Kauai Interscholastic Federation’s runner-up.
Kamehameha-Hawai`i finished with 22 points, three behind Ka Makani. The Warriors will host third-seeded Honoka`a (4-6-1) Tuesday in one of two semifinal matches. HPA will host fourth-seeded EastPac, a combination of St. Joseph and Christian Liberty, in the other semifinal.
The loser’s of both semifinal matches will meet two days later to determine the final guaranteed berth. The loser of Thursday’s third place game will meet the KIF runner-up on Saturday at Vindinha Stadium on Kauai.
