Girls Basketball Games in Hilo and Laupahoehoe Postponed
Bad weather and treacherous road conditions forced the postponement of tonight’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls basketball games in Hilo and Laupahoehoe.
Honoka`a athletic director Keith Tolentino and head coach Daphne Honma confirmed to Big Island Now just before noon today that the Dragons’ game at Laupahoehoe would be postponed. The varsity contest was slated to be played at 6:00 p.m. at Laupahoehoe High School.
BIIF Executive Director Lyle Crozier told Big Island Now just before 1:00 p.m. that Hilo’s home game against Kohala was also postponed. The junior varsity and varsity games were scheduled to be played at 6:00 p.m. in Keaukaha at Kawananakoa Gymnasium.
Stormy weather throughout the island caused flooding along Highway 19, which was closed from Laupahoehoe Gulch to the Honokaa side of Paauilo for much of the morning. The road opened just after noon.
No make up date has been set for either game.
All other games are scheduled to be played today.
