A 33-year-old Hilo man has been accused of cashing stolen checks from an account that had been closed five years earlier.
Police began their investigation into the matter in July, when a Hilo financial institution reported that two of the checks had been cashed on separate days.
Cheavis Kataoka was arrested for the crimes on Monday. He was charged Tuesday with three counts of theft and two counts each of forgery and identity theft.
His bail was set at $75,000 pending his initial court appearance.
