A 39-year-old Hilo man has been charged with car theft for allegedly stealing a vehicle from outside a convenience store in Laupahoehoe a week ago.

The theft of the 2011 Honda Fit sedan was reported at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Police on Tuesday located Franklin Enos at Laupahoehoe Point. The stolen vehicle was also recovered.

Enos was charged Thursday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, and his bail was set at $10,000. He was also charged with two counts of failing to maintain bond or bail in connection with previous offenses.

Enos was the subject of a manhunt in October 2005 after he and two other inmates escaped from Hawai`i Community Correctional Center. He was captured 11 days later after being found sleeping in a car parked in a private driveway in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
