Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob a Subway restaurant in Hilo early Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the man entered the Lanikaula Street business and told a female employee that he had a gun and demanded cash.

When the worker refused to give him any money, he fled on foot up Lanikaula Street.

Police said he may have gotten into a black Toyota four-door sedan on Kapiolani Street.

The suspect is described as Asian, 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-4 in height about 140 pounds.

He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, hat, dark shorts, a black-and-white flannel shirt and dark rubber shoes.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Lt. Gregory Esteban at 961-2252 or gesteban@co.hawaii.hi.us.

Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
