The University of Hawai`i at Hilo women’s soccer team has a lot to play for in its final four games, including a spot in the NCAA West Region tournament.

The Vulcans appeared in the first regional poll of the season, released Wednesday by the NCAA. UH-Hilo was slotted fifth with its 8-3-1 record in both regional and overall play.

The top eight teams from each NCAA region at the end of the regular season will go to the regional tournament. The regional winners will then have a chance to compete for a national championship.

UH-Hilo is the only representative of the Pacific West Conference in the West Region rankings. California Baptist, the conference leader, holds a 7-1 conference record and has accumulated 21 points. The conference champion gets an automatic berth to the NCAA West Region tournament.

UH-Hilo faces Hawai`i Pacific University today in Kaneohe, Oahu. The women’s match begins at 12:30 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 3:00 p.m.
