The Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls volleyball tournament gets underway Tuesday with a pair of Division II contests, culminating with championship games on Saturday night.

Eight of ten teams in the league’s Division II classification qualify for the league tournament. Only Parker (1-13) and Makua Lani (0-14) are left out of postseason play.

The top two teams in Division II, Konawaena (12-2) and Hawai`i Preparatory Academy (11-3), earned a double-bye and will wait until Friday to get on the court. The next two teams, third-seeded Ka`u (9-5) and fourth-seeded Pahoa (7-7), earned a bye in the opening round and will await the winners of Tuesday’s opening round games on Wednesday.

Three teams will qualify for the New City Nissan / Hawai`i High School Athletic Association Division II Championships, held Oct. 31 – Nov. 2 on Oahu.

Division I play gets underway with semifinal play Friday. Kea`au, who finished the season with a 6-8 record, was the only team who failed to qualify for the league’s postseason.

Waiakea, who earned the fourth seed in Division I with an 8-6 record, will face top-seeded Kamehameha-Hawai`i (14-0) at 5:30 p.m. Immediately following will be the other semifinal matchup pitting third-seeded Kealakehe (10-4) against regular season runner-up Hilo (13-1).
