Police are asking for the public’s help solving a robbery reported in late July at Ahalanui Park in lower Puna.

A 51-year-old man and 37-year-old woman were at a pavilion in the “hot pond” park at 2 a.m. on July 28 when they were approached by three men.

After the men demanded the victims’ wallets, one of the suspects got into a physical altercation with the male victim, and another suspect reportedly threatened the victim with a machete.

The suspects fled with cash and the victim’s cell phone.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Det. Wendall Carter at 961-2871 or wcarter@co.hawaii.hi.us.

Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
