A 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with the robbery of a Kailua-Kona restaurant a week ago.

Klay Brian Bensch of Kailua-Kona was charged today with robbery, burglary, kidnapping, assault and theft.

Bensch was arrested Tuesday in connection with the incident on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in which a man entered a restaurant near the intersection of Palani Road and Kuakini Highway after closing time.

Once in the restaurant, he allegedly approached a female employee from behind, threatened her with a weapon, forced her into another room and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot.

He was being held today in lieu of $29,000 bail pending an initial court appearance.
