A grand opening will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, for the Kamakoa Nui Skatepark in Waikoloa Village.

The community is invited to the event scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on Iwikuamo`o Street at the end of Paniolo Estates. Skaters are encouraged to bring their skateboards, helmet and pads to compete in the Best Trick Contest.

The grand opening also includes a silent auction fundraiser, food, music and activities for all ages.

The facility located in the 12-acre county park in the Kamakoa Nui workforce housing project was designed and built by California Skateparks and will be managed by Transition Youth Projects.

Granite “skate tiles” are available for sale to help support the skatepark and its second phase of construction. Businesses and individuals are invited to sponsor one of three different sized tiles.

Donations can also be sent to Transition Youth Projects or the Waikoloa Community Development Corp. at PO Box 383097, Waikoloa, HI 96738. Both are 501©(3) nonprofits.
