A cable severed by a tree trimmer cut service to Oceanic Time Warner Cable customers in Puna today.

A spokeswoman for the company said the fiber optic cable was cut in Panaewa at about 10 a.m.

The tree trimmer was not in the employ of Oceanic, she said.

By about 4 p.m., crews had restored service to Pahoa, parts of Keaau and Volcano, but not to other customers in Keaau or those in Mountain View and Kurtistown.

She said service is being restored to various areas as each of the individual fiber optic lines in the cable is repaired.

It was not immediately known when the repairs would be completed.
