Work on the $15 million shoulder lane conversion project will cause lane shifts and temporary closures on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Rt. 130) beginning Monday, Aug. 26.

The state Department of Transportation advises Hawaii motorists that traffic will be affected between mile post 2.0 and 4.1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for the duration of the Keaau-Pahoa Road Shoulder Lane conversion project.

The project spans 2.31 miles from Keaau Bypass Road to Shower Drive. Construction includes two 12-foot lanes and an 8-foot shoulder lane in the inbound direction and one 12-foot lane and a 10-foot shoulder lane in the outbound direction.

During the construction period, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph. Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time, the DOT said.
