UPDATE: Police Release Woman Arrested in Puna Murder

Hawaiʻi Island police arrested a 27-year-old Pahoa woman in connection with a fatal stabbing incident that occurred in Puna on Wednesday night, Aug. 21.

At 10:44 p.m., police and fire department personnel responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on Kawakawa Street in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision.

Police arrived to find a 42-year-old man with stab wounds. Rescue personnel took the man to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. His name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

While at the scene, police arrested Manaolanalani Benford, 27, of Pāhoa on suspicion of second-degree murder.

UPDATE:

After conferring with prosecutors, investigators released Benford from police custody at 8:30 p.m. on August 23.
