Police Seek Information on Puna Assault and Robbery Case

Hawaiʻi Island Police investigators are asking for information from the public on a robbery and auto theft early Tuesday, Aug. 20 in the Leilani Estates subdivision in Puna.

A 41-year-old man reported that between midnight and 3 a.m. he was assaulted outside his home on Maile Street. A car was reportedly stolen from the driveway.

The attacker is described as a local male of average height and weight. The man is reported to have medium-length dark hair and a “local accent.”

The stolen car is described as a blue 2005 Kia Optima four-door sedan, with the license plate ZAT 755.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (808)-961-8300 in Hilo or (808)-329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
